Hidden Gem Harvest Host, RV Battery Mistake & Boondocking at Strouds Run State Park
We started this RV trip expecting a relaxed stop at a hidden gem Harvest Host—and ended up with one of the most educational boondocking experiences we’ve had yet.
Our first stop was Bellawood Farm, a unique Harvest Hosts location that combines a butcher shop, restaurant, and overnight RV parking in one peaceful setting. From there, we made our way to Strouds Run State Park near Athens, Ohio—a beautiful but underrated dry camping destination perfect for boondocking.
That’s where things got interesting.
While off-grid camping, we noticed our RV batteries were draining much faster than expected. What we discovered was a valuable lesson about residual power draw—how devices and systems can still pull energy even when you think they’re turned off. A small oversight turned into a big reminder for anyone running solar, lithium, or boondocking setups.
Along the way, the trip also included a few unexpected adventures:
A drone mishap (with a surprisingly good outcome)
Geocaching finds in the woods
And Shelley’s first time driving our Class A motorhome inside the campground—branches included 😬
